The In the Aeroplane Over the Sea book, by Kim Cooper, is due out within the next few weeks. I'm going to post a review as soon as I get a chance to read it. If you yourself want to submit a review, please email me (sashwap at gmail).

I'm finally motivated to re-do the site, spruce it up a little. I shan't abandon my stark white motif, but I believe it'll benefit from an overhaul.

Pitchfork tries to erase their original review of Aeroplane by posting a new one for the recent UK reissue, giving it a ten out of ten. They're a little late to be the tastemaker they want to be; sure, they have the power to make a pretty mediocre band like the Arcade Fire so inexplicably popular, but they don't have a rating high enough to claim NMH as their own! Long live Jeff Mangum! Who, incidentally, is selling some of his drawings on the official NMH site.

ALSO: New mp3! It's a stunning live version of "Bucket" (the only live version I've heard, actually).

Another new mp3, this time a live performance of a rare, unreleased song called "arms from you" (i think that's what it's called, anyway. you can hear jeff introducing it but it's hard to make out what he says). it's an awkward shambolic rocker. thanks to captain23 for sharing the bootleg from which this song is taken.

I've uploaded a new mp3. it's not really new, and something like it has been circulating a little, but in any case it's the jeff mangum/tall dwarf's collaborative song "over the waves" stripped of the lead vocals so that one can hear jeff mangum singing his original vocal melody. it's nothing earth-shattering, but it's an interesting glimpse at the almost aeroplane-esque composition. here it is:

So there's a book coming out in September, I think, about In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, which, based on the description by the author HERE, should be incredibly informative and awesome.

I uploaded a little mp3 i put together of an underappreciated (in my opinion, anyway) unreleased NMH tune. its title is unknown, but Worms in the Wind seems appropriate enough. it's a live performance taken from the san fransisco show that you can download from this site, but i took the two separate parts of the song and put them together in one file. cool tune, a little reminiscent of "engine."

Added a few pretty sketchy tabs. More on the way eventually.

This isn't NMH-related, but I urge you all to listen to this band Frog Eyes. They released a masterpiece almost on par with Aeroplane last year, entitled The Golden River. though the two bands don't sound alike per se, they share certain similarities -- the timelessness, the effortless songwriting, the idiosyncratic lyrics, the intense singer with a unique voice, and most importantly, the bizarre cover art.

December 18, 2002: Nothing NMH related whatsoever. Sad, really. Jeff is hosting a radio show on WFMU (wfmu.org) under the name Jefferson. He plays some really intersting stuff. You can listen to the show on the WFMU website.
March 18, 2002. An update?! Check out pitchforkmedia.com for a new interview with Jeff Mangum, his first in three years!. Awesome, too bad they didn't talk to him about Major Organ though. Oh well....I also put up lyrics for Candy Coated Dream (an early, unreleased song).
Novemeber 20: I added some more tabs. Also, you can catch Jeff Mangum singing and playing drums on tour with the Circulatory System.
August 27: You can order the reissue of the Everything Is single from Orangetwin. It has a great bonus track, Tuesday Moon. I uploaded some more sound files and updated a few pages.
August 22: As if Live at Jittery Joe's wasn't enough, I have uploaded a great quality and rarities-packed NMH show from 1998. Check out the sounds page
