Sad Sappy Sucker
The first album that never was. Sad Sappy Sucker is a collection of the band's early recordings, showcasing the band's genesis and initial experimentation. A combination of studio sessions at Dub Narcotic in Olympia, rare 7"s, and home-made answering machine improvisation. A requirement for any hardcore Modest Mouse fan.

The Moon & Antarctica
The latest LP from Modest Mouse showcases the band's best songwriting yet. Lyrically dark, this cohesive album is a nice companion to the Build Nothing Out of Something compilation. Every song on The Moon and Antarctica has been perfected, while producer Brian Deck of Red Red Meat links everything together.

Night on the Sun 12"
This vinyl only release is the first of 3 companion singles to The Moon and Antarctica. Features the epic Night on the Sun plus three other songs.

This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing to Think About
Arguably Modest Mouse's best album, Long Drive is at once challenging, subtle, agressive, pretty, forlorn, and idealistic. A brazen effort by three young men which somehow comes together in the brilliant coherence of ones who aren't particularly sure of themselves, yet succeed anyway. After hundreds of listens I still find small details which surprise and please me.

The Lonesome, Crowded West
Modest Mouse's second full-length resonates with more assuredness and more maturity. While less cohesive as an album than Long Drive, The Lonesome Crowded West demonstrates the band's further growth and experimentation. A more accessible album than the first one although still with bite. My recommendation for someone looking for their first Modest Mouse album. (And it has Cowboy Dan, one of my favorite songs ever.)

Build Nothing Out of Something
Some of my favorite Modest Mouse songs are from their 7" singles. This album compiles many of the band's singles as well as tracks from the out-of-print Interstate 8 EP. The tone of the album switches between the delicate strains of songs like Baby Blue Sedan and Sleepwalking to the catchy grooves of Neverending Math Equation and Other People's Lives. A coherent and excellent selection of some of the best Modest Mouse songs.

On this EP Modest Mouse expands into a free style of hypnotic, danceable rhythyms. Features such classics as Dirty Fingernails and The Fruit That Ate Itself.
